hahaha so many views, ony one comment. We're omnivores as a species, thousands of years before there was even a word for capitalism I'm not sure how eating meat qualifies as representing capitolism, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I've heard of Orlatons before, in addition to reading Anthony Bourdain, I think I've run across it in some other books I've read. I've had pig ears before, not because they're a status symbol or the "in" thing to eat, but because my parents and their parent's generation believed in making the best use out of everything that came from the pig in the interest of economy. Btw, we have wild boar around here, and while I don't hunt myself I have eaten and been gifted by a local hunter's bounty. Same with venison. Most of the books I've read during the pandemic have been centered around food, the role it played in certain cultures throughout history, most especially here in the Southeast US. Carolina Gold rice exists because it was farmed by the backbreaking (and sometimes life giving) labor of slaves brought over here. Only to contribute to the capitalistic slave owners. Migrant workers all over the country to harvest fields and orchards in order to feed us. Which is worse, the killing of another species? or the killing of our own?

" I've had pig ears before, not because they're a status symbol or the "in" thing to eat, but because my parents and their parent's generation believed in making the best use out of everything that came from the pig in the interest of economy " Yes, I come from a similar background but could never get into chicken hearts and giblets . . . headcheese or pickled pig's feet, well maybe a sample of that every few years LOL

I struggled through about half of Homo Deus by the same author and finally put it aside, don't think I'm gonna attempt Sapiens anytime soon. Have you seen "High on the Hog" a wonderful and enlightening documentary on Netflix, that was released last month?
