September Loser Update 2
September Loser Update 2 In my last update, I was hopeful that I would be receiving a job offer from a company I really wanted to work for. I'd completed a two and a half hour video interview where I'd put in my finest ever interview performance. And having owned the same product portfolio for this company's biggest competitor, along with possessing twenty years of marketing experience and a track record of significant revenue growth, short of scooping up the person currently doing the job at their largest competitor, there was literally no one else in the country more qualified for the job. But that didn't stop a rejection email from hitting my inbox today, just the same. Honestly, it wasn't a surprise. I even told my parents it wouldn't happen, over the weekend, because it's me. I have a long, illustrious history of having things I'm deserving of and are most important to me yanked from my grasp. That's not a woe is me comment; it's just how things work for me, despite my veneer of invincibility. Of course, along with being pissed off, my self-esteem has taken the hit from being rejected for who fucking knows what. So, time to resume full throttle job search activity. I'd been coasting the last couple weeks, due to a misplaced sense of optimism I allowed to creep in. |

Where's Beck when you need him for the musical number?

I'm so sorry to hear that. I agree with LaLa...no harm in asking. ~~~" Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift." --Mary Oliver~~~

Below is the email I received. I can assure you it's been crafted by corporate counsel to offer a legally bullet proof reason you were kicked to the curb, regardless of whether it's true. In my experience, having gone through the job search when I wanted to quit consulting, employers won't offer anything further these days. Going off script opens the potential for discrimination lawsuits. Not to mention many companies won't send the 'fuck off' email until the chosen candidate accepts their offer. They went with someone younger, cheaper, or both. Thanks for the kind words; it'll all work out. Probably be a dead end job in Minnesota, but it'll work out lol Dear Loser, Thank you for taking the time to speak with us regarding the position. We appreciate the opportunity to review your background and experience. After careful consideration of all interviewed applicants, we have decided to move forward with another candidate whose experience and qualifications are more in line with the position open. We will keep your application/resume on file in the event an appropriate opportunity arises. We also encourage you to keep an eye on our Careers page. Again, thank you for your interest in employment opportunities with X Sincerely, Human Relations

When I used to bid for work on a regular basis I'd give all sorts of detail, almost write the job spec' for the client, and then I'd get my hopes up that we'd win the work and I'd be able to keep the guys going for a wee while longer. And then, the fuckers would go with someone else, and I'd find out later that they had used my spec's to get a competitive quote from a n other. I wised up to that, never quoted for any work from those clients again. And we always found plenty of work to keep us going. I wonder if that's what has happened to you here McMid? They found a gap in their skills base in the process of talking to you, then found someone else to fill the gap? There's a saying that keeps popping into my mind.......'you can't keep a good man (woman) down!' Human Relations is a horrible term for that line of work, and if I could get the emojis to work I'd stick my tongue out at the McBiggles!

Thats a generated form letter. I agree with La and would personally contact one of the interviewers and ask them for how you can improve your presentation. Not asking abt whom they chose, but on how they viewed your qualifications. How one sees themselves and how others view them can be very different. So despite what you felt you were throwing, they werent catching it. Frankly , you are barely out of your 40's, so not at all old.....and the $$.....well an offer, any offer would be warranted IF they liked what they saw in you. Then if they cant match your salary request, thats something tangible. I would dig a bit deeper~~

Thanks for the vote of confidence, although you have no way of knowing whether I am a good man. I'll keep shaking the trees for the right opportunity. Not as though I have much of a choice.

I would dig a bit deeper~~ Companies don't typically make offers on a sliding scale of what they think you're worth, based on the interview process. They knew from the first screening call what my expectations were and the message I received was 'that's doable'. Because of the constant pressure, I did reach out to the division VP and asked for a quick chat. Keeps shit out of writing so he can speak more freely. Awaiting his response. Beyond that, I'm not going to waste time on post mortems that won't yield anything worthwhile.

Ahhhhhh.....but post mortems DO produce results. They typically tell us what went wrong.....IF the ears are ready to actively listen. I hope the VP returns your call with some information. Good luck with it all ~
