Some Lessons Are Never Learned... OtherS Take ForeveR To FuckinG MasteR...ðŪâ I like irrational speed; I always have. Yet â supposedly â I'm somewhat educated if you consider University schooling worth anything. But I can't get my head around driving slow. In the last month, I've paid a MAMMOTH price for my arrogance. I thought I was above the law. The first time I ever felt neck warping acceleration was when I was twenty and drove my friend's Porsche. I hit two hundred miles per hour. We blistered down that brilliantly lit highway in a fantastic blur. The sound of whistling wind, the wild vibration â the feeling of imminent danger â tickled my nerves and quenched my brain with endorphins that I couldn't explain. But I grinned. With cars I've owned, the best I could do is about a hundred and twenty miles per hour; 'limiters' prevented anything more. But it was enough to give me a rush. Many decades have passed, and I thought I'd mellowed â become more responsible â until last month. I don't know what's tripped me up. Luck had created a false sense of security. I felt as if I was untouchable. When I saw the red, white and blue flashing lights in my rear-view... my heart sank. For fuck's sake! What a bitch. Nothing to say; no excuses, lesson learned, right? Act your age â fucktard! Nope... not me. One week later, different highway, same result. For fuck's sake â NO! But bad luck and stupidity cluster in threes. Sure enough, six days more, and I'm dishing out my driver's license AGAIN. I tried to look sad and remorseful â it's the ONLY thing I could think of. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't know why they don't have TWO sets of rules. One set for those who know and love to drive fast â and are capable â and another bunch of rules for everyone else. Damn, I keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I'm not looking for sympathy, or advice or anything. I love momentum, and I've realized I'm not cut out for this country and its tepid traffic regulations. Now Germany; they have the right idea. That nation has exclusive lanes â on their autobahns â with NO speed limit. I'm a bit distraught... and thinking about starting a 'G.o F.und M.e' campaign; 'Driving School Instructor, hoping to make a difference.' ðķ ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O |

Unfortunately my leadfoot friend in this country, putting your pedal to the metal is not recommended, nor is being a need for speed demon. Others to consider on the highways and bi-ways other than ourselves. We all know how quick and easy it is to lose control behind the wheel and take either your own life, or God forbid someone else's just due to stupidity and careless, reckless driving.. Slow The Fuck Down my friend...No sympathy from me on this issue Hun....xoxo

I hear ya on this one, Paul. Put me in the same class. For years I used to 'street race', now with traffic and speed cameras, it's almost impossible, unless you find a quite road someplace. American Graffiti anyone? I too have a lead foot, and sometimes the track simply doesn't do it, but it should. And while I too have contributed more than my fair share of revenue to the county fund, I can't help but think that when I see the flashing lights in my mirror that it's a challenge to my skill. Alas my days of eluding my pursuers are gone. Damn helicopters.... grrrr..... But in my youth..... *grins*

The police are hot on speeding here in the UK as well. If you drive on many West African roads, there's no speed limit but the trouble is that you can't speed because they're so potholed, rocky and muddy!

We all, at one time love to drive fast and see how fast the car can go. Back in the day, there was some young guys that love to race, they was around 21 and 23, to make a long story short, them didn't get and older, and one was beheaded. They both legacy ended that day. This was a lesson, to many in that time in my teens.

hahaha yes Paul I'm laughing. you must be made out of money with all those tickets.

Yikes Paul, what happens to your car insurance rates when you get three speeding tickets in a short period of time? I'm the polar opposite of you and I know for a fact that I annoy other drivers when I follow the speed limit. Especially since the city recently reduced speed limits to 20 mph for neighborhood streets and 25 mph for "artery" streets (32K and 40K in your terms).

Yikes!!!! I got pulled over doing 95 in a 40mph zone and it cost me over $300. I think 3 high speed tickets that close together might cost you your license, here.

For me... it was motorcycles and drag boats. One I could afford and the other I learned to build fast enough so that other people paid to have it built. 168 MPH on a motorcycle is another world, 130 MPH in a drag boat is achieved in the first quarter mile..... props don't slip or spin in the water. I would like to say that I learned better.... but the truth is that every motorcycle I ever owned was almost immediately stressed to find the maximum speed. Some of them I only pushed that hard once... others that handled well were repeatedly pushed. It's a thing... either you like it or you don't.

>>You're probably right; YOU would infuriate me. I'd glare, or not. I'm trying to change. Would you smile back? ðĪ Is THAT possible? ðķ Well, let's put it this way. If you tailgated me and then passed me on the shoulder, in the bike lane, I don't think I would smile, I'd probably look straight ahead hoping not to further provoke you (we had a fatal case of road rage last summer - a softball coach driving with his son was killed by a stranger who he somehow managed to piss off). On the other hand, if I then caught up with you at the next stoplight, having expended much less gas and brake lining, I might be tempted to smile.

I love speed. I also love flying. For years I trained and showed horses to jump. It was glorious. After some falls and horses falling too I had to slow down. Or die. My body pains are pretty much all from horse crashes. I didn't get a ticket riding but the health care cost has been steep.

sadly paul after i got out of the navy i couldnt make the payments on that 78 280..sold it to my recruiter..years later in my 30's i owned a 77 280 for a few years...that 300 you mentioned? probably was a twin-turbo..the honda never stood a chance..the friends porsche you did 200 mph in? the timing sounds right for it to have been a 911..maybe a tiarga? woop woop

Speed kills. While you may have been 'lucky' up until now, why keep tempting fate? You have shared stories before about those Montreal female cops. They must have your information on speed-dial now.

I've got a lead foot too. I've been stopped quite a few times over the years for speeding but have never received a speeding ticket. I think for me, I'm an instant gratification type of person, I just want to get there, to my destination, in as short an amount of time as I can. It's all about time.

Ha! I'm not a speedster with that high of mph, but I did go from Portland [Northern part of the state] to Grants Pass [southern OR] in about 3.5 hours once. Normally its a four - 5 hour drive. I blame it on the music back then. I had Aerosmith on the 8-track. lol! Here in the Seattle area the posted speeds is 60, with more rural parts on I-5 at 70. I usually go 80+... ~~~" Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift." --Mary Oliver~~~
