Did They Really Mean to Say That?
Did They Really Mean to Say That? I love vintage advertising. Maybe it’s the artwork. Maybe it’s the font. Sometimes it’s the copy itself that intrigues. While driving to our Halloween party last night, the hubs told me about an old ad a friend had recently posted on FB. It was from a Yellow Page ad back in the day…titled, “Uptight?” “Have a screw problem?” And that’s way before E.D. was on TV! I can only imagine the chuckles it got back then. I recently the thought of a popular company and their tagline popped into my mind: LAY’S Potato Chips…”Betcha can’t eat just one!” Remember this guy in all the ads? bag? or pants? I wonder how many boys smirked at that one?? Or did they see the double entendre like I did? Again, the ad company that came up with that one must’ve laughed their asses off at their three martini lunches!! Oh the revenue that campaign must have brought in! One of my all-time favorite ads was from Jovan Musk Oil Perfume. First, I must say, I loved it back in the day. The scent itself was a huge turn-on for teenagers in lust. I wrote an essay dissecting the double meaning in a college paper. Got an A on it. What do you see first in this ad?? The photo was suggestive enough: a man’s hand w/a wedding band on it caressing a woman’s leg under the table at a romantic restaurant. The tagline read “Jovan Musk…dedicated to the proposition.” That ad always intrigued me. Hmmm….maybe I was having a premonition?? What about you? Can you think of some double entendre ads? And on the way to our friend’s party house, I had to stop and take this pic. Happy Monday!! ~~~" Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. I had forgot about some of those! Funny. Was it “nothing comes between me and my calvin Klein’s”? Which meant…she had no panties!!! I was a horny teen. 😜 There some convenience stores in Oklahoma called Kum & Go. I laugh all the time. Ponygirl knows the ones. Thanks for the post. This was fun. Have a great day! 💋 Staci

Whaaaat, NO, people back then didn't have dirty minds like we do today. But obviously you're advanced given the A you got on that paper. What course was that BTW? I saw the creamed peach/butt first. It's not that I have a dirty mind. A photographer knows the eye is drawn to the lightest area, or area of greatest contrast, first. Speed humping has it time and place, but should be the exception not the rule. I love vintage ads too. One of the best double entendre ads, not in a sexual sense, was the Conservative Party's 'Labour Isn't Working' advert in the 1979 General Election campaign. It was a time of high unemployment with a Labour Government in power.

I noticed the man's hand on her nice curvy ass first and the cream on the peach next. There is something so sexy about the shape of a peach. Sometimes a speed hump can be good but it is best when you are super horny and use it to take the edge off so you can enjoy a loooong slow period of foreplay and humping after. I have wondered at how many vintage ads had intentional sexual meanings and how many were written by those who were clueless about that second meaning. A dirty mind is so much fun. If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin." I always behave. Preferably not well.

We don't have Lay's crisps (potato chips) over here. We have Walker's and Golden Wonder...yawn!

I agree the Frito Lay was a classic along with no less a legend than Bert Lahr in it, he of course was the Cowardly Lion & a superb actor. Over here on this side of the pond one of my all time favourites was Cadbury's " Everyone's A Fruit & Nutcase " with Frank Muir they aired quite a few & all were brilliant. As a lifelong committed Nutcase I wholeheartedly obviously gave my blessing even though they never asked. On a scale of world's greatest chocolate bars the fruit & nut is always a winner although the Swiss & Belgians by far make the world's best chocolate concoctions as the Brits are mostly middle of the road decent but nothing spectacular.

Very funny. Is that your driveway just ahead on the right?

20MPH? I like a long slow start, but once the switch is flipped it's like looking out the window on the Star Trek space ship when they hit warp speed! At least that's how it seems to me! Hopefully your point of view is similar!
