Chopstick Escapades

Chopstick Escapades

I bought sushi for lunch and decided I would try to be fancy and eat it with chopsticks.

Um.... Yah.

Twenty minutes into it I had read 3 tutorials and watched 1 youtube video on the proper use of chopsticks and still managed to fling a California Roll across the breakroom.

I never did manage to master the skill of chopsticks.

Have I mentioned how underrated eating with your fingers is??

I guess this means I'll have to remain a savage.

Cripe... I really was looking forward to being fancy.

Not all of it is raw fish. I never thought I would like it either until we did a special food day at work one day. I haven't tried everything, but the few that I did try were pretty good.
You can eat all the sushi you want if you like it but you might want to do a Google search on the dangers of eating sushi just so you know some of the risks.

I'm with you on the idea of using them as skewers. It seems like it would be much easier and faster....especially since I'm seriously chopstick illiterate!
    Flying sushi....what a sight!
I do try to sneak some humor in my comments whenever I can...

I was glad nobody was in the breakroom! With the social distancing rule only 6 people can be in the breakroom at a time so most of my coworkers now eat in their offices or cars. The funny thing is, I immediately thought, OMG! These things are weopons!

    I don't even want to help you with using chopsticks to eat sushi... yuck. amp;

But if I was going to use chopsticks I'd likely take out my pocket knife and sharpen the end and use them as skewers. That way you can even hold the sushi over a candle and cook it... now that's fancy.

I used to be chopstick-challenged until I started going to college. There was this place on the edge of campus that sold yummy beef teriyaki rice bowls. The place offered forks and spoons if you wanted them, but I got determined to learn how to eat these bowls using chopsticks. So I practiced, practiced, practiced some more. A few years later, I went to Japan for a year, and got plenty of opportunity to refine my chopstick skills. However, while I can eat pieces of tofu, I still cannot split big chunks of meat with chopsticks.

Tip: It's easier to start with disposable wooden chopsticks as those offer more traction. Once you get good with the wooden ones, then the plastic or enameled ones are much more doable.
I did have the disposable wooden ones... It's going to take a lot of practice for me. I just can't seem to get any of it even remotely correct. I'm all awkward thumbs.

I wash my hands so many times a day now... It's insane. At break I wash my hands. Wipe down the table and place 2 paper towels on it. I then open any food container I have and my plastic cutlery. I discard the wrappers... etc, then wash my hands again. Then I'm ready to eat over the paper towels. It's scary that you feel like you have to discard all packaging before you eat and wash your hands after you touched the packaging.

Best thing to do with chopstiks is put them up yer nose and smile. Then, once all the weans have run away in terror, you get peace to eat your food with your fingers without setting a bad example.......simple really. Yes, I know, you cannot teach this level of genius!
Yikes!! Lol I could rival Nose Hairs....

    hi secret_lade

asian food can be so much fun with two people

It took me years to work the sticks

add some plum wine and you're good to go

I think it forces you to eat slower, enjoy your meal

and, have a chance to talk to your lover across the table

plus, the fortune cookies are all built exclusively for each person

    somethin' new

    made me think of this

The Miracles - "I'll Try Something New"

I will build you a castle with a tower so high
    It reaches the moon
I'll gather melodies from birdies that fly
    And compose you a tune
Give you lovin' warm as mama's oven
    And if that don't do
    Then I'll try something new
I will take you away with me as far as I can
    To Venus or Mars
There we will love with your hand in my hand
You'll be queen of the stars
And every day we can play on the milky way
    And if that don't do
    Then I'll try something new
I will bring you a flower from the floor of the sea
    To wear in your hair
I'll do anything and everything to keep you happy
Girl, to show you that I care
I'll pretend I'm jealous of all the fellas
    And if that don't do
    Then I'll try something new
There really aren't any decent asian cuisine restaurants where I live, so it's not something I do frequently. Years ago, when I was in Vegas with my ex husband, we ate at one and it was so much fun. I don't know if it was the experience, or just trying something new... But I still smile when I remember it.

Yum... Love egg rolls. I've always wanted to be one of those elegant people who just seem to emit grace and class with everything they do.... I'm afraid that I'll always be the woman who flings her sushi across the room and laughs way to hard, way to loud when it happens.

I'm not a spice fan... So I have to be careful what I pick out, some of it is spicy. There is a guy who prepares it fresh for you and he always chuckles when he sees me coming and says "No Spice!" You'd be surprised what you might like if you give it a try.

We have the social distancing thing going on at work so most of us take break when nobody else is in the breakroom. The guy in the video made it look super simple! I just couldn't seem to get it. I'm just totally chopstick challenged.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
