FAT BEAR WEEK Brown Bears on the Brooks Falls, Alaska:  Fat Bear Week 2021 draw:  Forget the Ryder Cup, Super Bowl, Challenge Cup, Olympics, Wimbledon, Indian Premier League, Stanley Cup, America’s Cup, World Series and FA Cup, Fat Bear Week beats the lots of them for excitement! Fat Bear Week is an annual competition whereby people get the chance to vote for the fattest bear in Alaska’s Katmai National Park, a wilderness containing more bears than humans. This year’s Fat Bear Week took place from 29 September to 5 October. Fat Bear Week is a single elimination tournament. For each set of two bears drawn together, people vote for the fattest bear to advance to the next round until only one fat bear will be crowned champion of Fat Bear Week. In preparation for hibernation during the winter months when brown bears lose one-third of their body weight, bears gorge on sockeye salmon from late June to mid-October. The bears go fishing on Brooks River and Bristol Bay, with Brooks Falls being a particular favourite fishing spot. Did you vote in the Fat Bear Week competition? What fat bear below gets your vote to be the supreme champion? This year’s Fat Bear Week winner was a 25 year-old bear named Otis. He also voted the fattest bear in 2014, 2016 and 2017. This bear definitely loves his salmon! Last year, 747 was voted the fattest bear; in 2019, Holly was declared the fattest bear; and in 2018 and 2015, Beadnose was crowned the fattest bear. Over 793,000 votes were cast in this year’s Fat Bear Week contest; incredibly, that’s over twice the number of votes cast in last year’s presidential election in Alaska. I did not know about this contest....and I used to lived in Alaska! Great idea, though! I agree with lok4fun....#4 is a real roly poly of a bear.  Pagan  Hmmmm....I know I left that wand around here somewhere!

I just heard about this on one of my podcasts, it must now officially be a viral event. I wish MY body worked that way, that I could gorge myself for several months and then lose it all before the next spring. Then again, I don't particularly want to sleep away half the year...

I seen this the other night on our World News, Otis weighs one thousand pounds that's one big bear. I didn't even know about this until the other night. I hope your Monday is a great start to your week.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Love these fat bear brackets, they all look so cute and cuddly... from behind my computer screen! btw we also have this thing called "March Mammal Madness" where tournament brackets are filled with the craziest animals all duking it out to see who wins. I suppose it helps to be a fan of American college basketball in order to get the title joke, but a bracket is a bracket is a bracket around the world right?
